Fresco Process
Creating fresco is a visceral, meditative expression for me. I go to auctions, and scout shops, looking for unusual frames, as a hobby. The feel, and history of the frame inspires me. The moment I fall in love with a frame, I get a vision of what goes in it. That is when my creative adventure begins. I restore, or enhance the frame to suit my vision. This recycling aspect of my creative process is enjoyable. All the while, thoughts for the fresco grow.
Next , I mix my own recipes of hard lime, for old fashioned fresco plaster. Applied in various layers, and colors, the fresco plaster becomes a textural relief foundation, on quarter inch board, for my images. The end result of my efforts yeild more depth, warmth, and character than any other medium.
I paint my plaster, the old way, while still raw and damp. The mystery of the artistic gift of expression still surprises me, and gives me joy. I love to share it! Life is such a mystery and a wonder! The images emerge from my mind, through my hands, into beautiful lasting fresco art. Serene tones blend into peaceful landscapes. Abstracts burst with echos of natural wonders. Fresco plaster painting helps me visually communicate in a soft spoken, peaceful way. I intend for the observer to experience visual sanctuary.
